Where to buy

When it comes to finding the sweet spot between warmth and comfort, the Cressi Comfort 5 mm Lady wetsuit does exactly what its namesake promises. The “Lady” version is designed specifically for female divers in temperate waters (61–75 F/16–24 C). The wetsuit combines premium materials with thoughtful design to create a suit that truly feels like a second skin.

What sets the Comfort Lady apart is its 100% super-elastic outer lining paired with a soft X-PLUSH inner fabric, which makes donning and doffing relatively effortless—all while still maintaining great thermal retention. Other practical features like a hood-holder clip and reinforced kneepads add to the suit’s reliability. This suit is for women who want performance and warmth without compromising on comfort.

Let’s dive into our review of the Cressi Comfort Lady 5 mm wetsuit.

First Impressions

Right out of the package, the quality of materials on the Cressi Comfort Lady is immediately apparent. The ULTRA-SPAN outer fabric feels strong yet stretchy and X-PLUSH inner lining is soft. I feel confident that donning and doffing will be comfortable, and that I will be warm underwater.

As to be expected with Cressi, the design and construction of the suit seems professional. Seams are cleanly finished with no loose threads or uneven stitching.

Material & Design

Cressi uses two unique terms to explain the inner and outer construction of the Comfort Lady suit: the outer ULTRA-SPAN neoprene and the inner X-PLUSH lining.

The Exterior ULTRA-SPAN

The outer lining is predominantly constructed of ULTRA-SPAN, an exceptionally elastic material that allows the suit to fit snugly against the skin without the hassle of squeezing into it awkwardly.

Having previously used Cressi’s Lady Lei (similar to the Bahia), I immediately noticed the difference. The Lei’s neoprene is noticeably stiffer, whereas the Comfort is much more flexible and softer. The Comfort allowed for natural movement without the restrictive feeling that often comes with thicker neoprene.

The Interior X-PLUSH

A feature that is getting more and more popular, especially with the thicker cold-weather wetsuits, is the inclusion of a fleece-like inner lining. Different companies give it different names—BARE’s is Omnired, Fourth Element is Hexcore, Scubapro is Blue Diamond, and Cressi is X-Plush. All are their own version of essentially the same thing.

Unlike traditional smooth neoprene interiors that can stick to skin when damp, this textured fleece lining creates a slippery surface that makes suit entry so much easier. More importantly, it dries noticeably faster than standard linings, which means less time dealing with a clammy wetsuit.

During our multi-dive days, this quick-drying lining retained its soft feel even when slightly damp, and there was no uncomfortable sticking or pulling when putting the suit back on for afternoon dives.

Fit and Comfort

Finding a wetsuit that both fits well and feels good can be, to put it mildly, a challenge, especially since women vary widely in shape and size. The Cressi Comfort’s design combines premium materials with thoughtfully placed panels that allow for flexibility and movement.

Thanks to these multiple stretchable panels, the wetsuit can adapt to a range of body proportions without compromising its trim fit and warmth.

The anatomical 120-degree pre-formed cutaway collar is one of this wetsuit’s unique features. Traditional wetsuit collars can cut into your neck when you look down to check gauges or adjust equipment. This collar design eliminates that pressure, allowing for natural neck positioning without gaps that would let in water.

Thermal Performance

There is a seal at the cuffs to help retain heat.
There is a seal at the cuffs to help retain heat.

In water temperatures ranging from 17 to 22 C (63 to 72 F), the Comfort Lady provided consistent thermal protection. The 5 mm thickness throughout ensured even insulation, and the high-quality materials helped to retain that heat during the entire dives.

The double seals at wrists and ankles performed well, minimizing water flushing in and out of the suit, which translates to better heat retention. While diving in 68 F (20 C) waters, I was able to stay consistently comfortable and cozy. On the surface, the inner X-Plush lining dried reasonably quickly, so that on the boat ride back to the dive shop I could avoid that post-dive chill.

Durability and Construction

The X-DIAMOND reinforcement fabric is slightly tougher material strategically placed in high-wear areas: atop the shoulders, around the kneepads, and the seat area. These reinforcements are still flexible and integrate seamlessly with the suit’s stretch characteristics. There are also padded knee and elbow pads in semi-flexible Tatex® material, offering protection without bulk.

Practical Features

Hood Integration

A hood holder is located on the left hip.
A hood holder is located on the left hip.

While the hood is sold separately, the dedicated hood holder is a practical touch. It provides a secure spot to attach your hood between dives without worrying about loss or damage.

Price/Quality Ratio

At approximately $250-300 USD, the Comfort Lady sits in the middle range of the 5 mm wetsuit market. Compared to budget options, the premium materials and construction quality justify the price difference. Against high-end suits costing over $400, it offers excellent value by delivering most of the performance benefits at a more accessible price point.

Similar quality suits from competitors like ScubaPro’s EverFlex or Fourth Element Proteus II can cost significantly more, making the Comfort Lady an attractive option for divers who want premium materials without premium pricing.

Do we recommend the Cressi Comfort 5 mm Lady Wetsuit?

Video

Yes. This wetsuit is good for intermediate to advanced divers who regularly dive in temperate waters and want reliable thermal protection without the bulk and stiffness of traditional 5 mm suits.

The combination of premium materials, thoughtful design, and practical features makes the Cressi Comfort particularly appealing for divers who want comfort during long dive days, those who dive frequently, or for those who take extended dive trips where gear performance matters.
