Akona Women’s Classic Wetsuit Fit and Style
Thanks to its anatomical fit, the Akona Women’s Classic back-zip is an excellent wetsuit for all body types, especially for women with curves. The wetsuit is available in sizes 5/6 to 15/16 and made of a four-way flexible material, which makes it easy to move in.
As with many other wetsuits, petite divers may have issues with bunching around the knees or may have to fold up the cuffs of the legs and arms for a better fit.
This wetsuit has a flattering cut and features three options for colored trim. These include magenta, tiffany blue, and phantom (black and white). The chest panel has a fun tribal pattern across the upper portion and along the sides.
Warmth and Flexibility
The Akona Women’s Classic is made of environmentally-friendly materials that do not compromise flexibility. According to the Akona website, the “earth-friendly” neoprene used in the suit’s construction doesn’t rely on oil as much as petroleum-based neoprene.
Furthermore, the four-way “Quantum stretch” material makes it easy to put on and take off, as well as making it flexible while in the water. This material also makes it a great choice for women with curves, as it’s not as rigid as other wetsuits.
This wetsuit is designed for warm to moderately cold temperatures. However, because of the wetsuit’s flexibility, it is easy and comfortable to layer a hooded vest underneath.
Another great feature of this suit is that you needn’t compromise movement for warmth. Many 5 mm and 7 mm wetsuits can feel constrictive; however, the Akona Women’s Classic provides a good range of motion.
Durability
The Akona Back Zip Classic has textured padding on the shoulder, which is designed to increase both durability and comfort while wearing a BCD. Additionally, this wetsuit has reinforced knees, which also increase the longevity of the suit.
After a week of diving, this wetsuit held up well and became the go-to suit.
Price/Quality Ratio
The Akona Back Zip Classic is reasonably priced for the comfort and quality. It is a great option for divers looking for a comfortable, affordable wetsuit.
Some of our favorite features of this suit include the anatomical cut of the wetsuit, which makes it very flattering on all divers. This wetsuit also features abrasion pads, which are typically found in high-end wetsuits like the ScubaPro Everflex, however, this wetsuit is more reasonably priced.
