FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA – Grand Bahama is known for its unparalleled beauty, warm hospitality, and unique offerings, but the island will soon welcome a number of new air, sea and accommodation additions that will make visiting easier than ever.
Grand Bahama is conveniently located just 55 miles from the coast of Florida, and offers visitors three unique experiences – an authentic family island experience in the west, its city center where visitors can enjoy a wide range of convenient amenities and an eco-wonderland in the east. With its close proximity to the United States, ease of access via commercial and private flights, cruise ships, ferry services and private boats, and the island’s eco wonders, Grand Bahama is a perfect destination for visitors, boaters, and nature enthusiasts alike.
In addition to Grand Bahama being home to Western Air’s Airport Terminal, which was newly opened in 2023, the island also began the process of moving forward with plans to construct a new International Airport. The airport welcomes domestic flights via Bahamasair and Westernair, flights from Orlando via Bahamasair, Fort Lauderdale flights via Silver Airways and Bahamasair, and Miami flights via American Airlines. The island also welcomes visitors via seasonal flight routes from Italy via Alipitour, as well as Montreal and Toronto via Sunwing.
Carnival Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and the Balearia Fast Ferry also sail to Grand Bahama multiple times per week, and the island will soon be home to Carnival’s Celebration Key Cruise Port, which is scheduled to debut in 2025.
Grand Bahama boasts a myriad of amenities, including 120 restaurants and eateries, 44 named beaches as well as picturesque and luxurious accommodations. In addition to all-inclusive properties, boutique hotels, timeshares, Airbnb and rental properties with a total of over 1500 available rooms, the Six Senses Residences & Resort is currently in development and scheduled to open in 2026.
