Diving on the Maldives Aggressor II liveaboard

Divers have the choice of three exciting itineraries of 7 and 10 nights, all starting and finishing in Malé, home of the international airport. Guests can expect to see a wide variety of marine life, including whale sharks, manta rays, sharks, turtles, and colorful reef fish.

The Maldives offers a diverse range of diving conditions, from shallow reefs to deep walls, drop-offs, and drift dives. There are also several wrecks and channels to explore. Divers should be Advanced Open Water certified and have experience with drift diving in strong currents. Nitrox certification is recommended, but not required.

With a wide variety of marine life and dive sites, the Maldives is a great destination for photographers. Choose wide-angle photography to capture the scale and beauty of the coral reefs and marine life. Macro photography is also popular to capture the intricate details of marine life like clownfish, nudibranchs, and shrimp.

The Maldives Aggressor II’s itinerary is designed to maximize guests’ chances of seeing pelagic life. The dive guides on board are also experts at finding and spotting pelagic life.

All diving is done from the spacious, 60-foot (18.2m) dhoni, which is equipped for up to 28 passengers. Rental equipment is available on board for an additional fee and should be booked in advance.

Highlights:

  • Diverse range of dive sites, including walls, drifts, wrecks, and shallow reefs
  • Abundant marine life, including whale sharks, manta rays, sharks, turtles, and colorful reef fish

Onboard the Maldives Aggressor II

The Maldives Aggressor II has 11 staterooms, all of which are en-suite. Four deluxe staterooms and one suite, located on the main and upper decks, offer ocean views through large picture windows. Six standard twin cabins with natural light from portholes are located on the lower deck. All staterooms are spacious, comfortable, and feature air conditioning and TV/DVD players.

The salon and dining area on the Maldives Aggressor II offer a large seating area where guests can relax and socialize, as well as a TV and DVD player, a library of books and movies, and a selection of board games.

Nightly entertainment includes diving, fish identification presentations, and movies in the salon. The dining area has large tables where guests can enjoy delicious meals prepared by the yacht’s chef.

There are plenty of spaces for guests to relax between and after diving. The highlight is the large sundeck with a shaded cocktail area and hot tub. Additional outdoor spaces include a forward sundeck with loungers on the upper deck, and an open-air lounge toward the stern of both the upper and main decks.

For photographers, there’s a three-tier camera table with low-pressure air hoses on the main deck for setting up and checking equipment.

When it comes to diving, the Maldives Aggressor II is accompanied by a 60-foot dhoni that delivers and collects guests to and from the dive sites. Equipment remains on board the dhoni for the duration of the trip at 28 personalized dive stations.

The dhoni features freshwater tanks for rinsing cameras and equipment, a toilet, sink, and hot showers for after each dive. Dive briefings also take place here. Finally, there’s a large sundeck on the dhoni to take in the views and relax on surface intervals.

Had booked Maldives trip over 12 months ago. Aggressor cancelled the trip with only 2 weeks notice due to an “incident” that was underinvestigation. The company provided several options; 1 of which included a refund-which is what we opted for.
We were left with really trying to find a plan “B’ on our own. We were traveling with 6 in our group so trying to find accommodations within the same budget at the last minute proved to be very difficult. I was rather disappointed in their attempts to do whatever they could to help the group find alternatives. While they said their travel agent could assist, they really dropped the ball and were no help at all. Communication was very poor and took multiple emails, etc. to get a response back. This would have been our 3rd liveaboard with Aggressor but unfortunately, the poor communication and customer service has left me with not being able to further recommend this company for a liveaboard experience.
