A lot sets Spyderco apart from its competitors, not least of which is the distinctive hole you’ll see on the blade. This simple yet innovative design is one of many reasons Spyderco is a leader in the knife industry. Designed to open quickly and swiftly with one hand, Spyderco knives are sharp out of the box, feature two distinct cutting edge designs, and a multitude of blade models to choose from.

One of our favorite knives, the Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot, may be the best knife not to make our pick to win a category. It’s available in both PlainEdge (straight) and SpyderEdge (serrated) blade designs and is designed with G10 scales on the handle to prevent slipping.

Let’s dive in and take a closer look at the Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot dive knife.

Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot Spec Breakdown & Features

The Caribbean Sheepfoot is a foldable knife made from LC200N stainless steel, a nitrogen- and chromium-rich alloy, resulting in less corrosion and a longer blade life. The blade measures 3.7 inches (9.4 cm) and features a 4.84 inch-long (12.3 cm) handle. In the open position, the Caribbean Sheepfoot measures 8.54 inches (21.7 cm).

The Caribbean Sheepfoot is available in either PlainEdge (straight) or SpyderEdge (serrated). Both models are extremely sharp and feature a drop-point tip. Both models weigh a mere 4.2 ounces (119 g). The handle features G10 machined scales, making it more slip-resistant.

Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot Impressions

I really like all Spyderco knives, and I especially liked every Spyderco knife we tested from their Salt line, like the Salt 2. I don’t think there’s a single knife that I wouldn’t feel confident diving with, or for that matter, telling a friend to dive with. They will all cut almost anything, and their folding design means you don’t have to worry about a sheath. And, if you know anything about knives, you know Spyderco means quality. It is no different for the Caribbean Sheepfoot.

During our testing phase, the Caribbean Sheepfoot performed exactly how we had imagined. It cut through fishing line, 550 cord, and thick dock rope with no problem. It truly is one of the sharpest knives on the market.

The only small hiccup we found—and the only issue that kept the Caribbean Sheepfoot from being chosen as one of the best knives of the year—is the closing mechanism. It’s as easy as any folding knife to open, but closing it was a little tricky.

After a close examination, we found that this is due to the fact that you have to push down on the locking clip, not just in. While wearing thick gloves this was a little bit of a problem. Maybe it’s in the name, Caribbean, because it would be the perfect warm-water knife.

The price is a little high compared to some other dive knives, so it may not be the best first knife for some divers. But it is a great knife for anybody who thinks high quality is important. It cuts great, looks great, and the handle is designed to be slip-resistant.

One of the knives from Spyderco we really loved—not only because it’s a great knife, but also because we think it’s one of the best dual purpose knives—is the Native 5 Salt. It works great as a dive knife, but you can also carry it everyday—we figure that’s kind of like getting two knives for the price of one.

Do we recommend the Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot dive knife?

With full certainty we do recommend the Spyderco Caribbean Sheepfoot dive knife. This is one of our favorite knives we tested. The only reason it didn’t win one of our categories is a little hiccup with the locking mechanism, which is hard to use with thick gloves.

If you dive with thin gloves or barehanded this is a great knife for you. It is compact, made from top-notch materials, sharp as any knife on the market, and the G10 scales mean it’s less likely to slip while you’re using it.

Spyderco makes great knives, and the Caribbean Sheepfoot is near the top of that list. It is at the high-end of our cost scale, but it’s worth it.
