Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC Spec Breakdown & Features

One of the smaller knives we tested, with a blade measurement of only 3 inches (7.62 cm) and weighing only 8 ounces (227 g), the Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC dive knife is great for those who are trying to reduce their underwater footprint.

Made from titanium and featuring a pointed tip, the Sharp Tip Titanium BC knife also includes a line cutter, a plastic handle and a plastic sheath. If you’re looking for a line cutter exclusively, check out our review of the EEZYCUT Trilobite.

Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC Impressions

Right up front, I have to tell you—I’m a fan of smaller knives. That’s not because I like to travel, or because I try to really streamline my accessories, but because I’ve never really seen the value of having a giant knife strapped to my leg. It makes me feel like I’m diving to fight giant octopuses, or spies for that matter. The Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC knife is right up my alley.

Testing the Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC knife was smooth. It cut fishing line, 550 paracord, and dock rope with minimal effort. The line cutter notch isn’t great, but the straight edge cuts just fine.

Getting it in and out of the sheath was fairly easy. You just squeeze the thumb tabs together and it frees the knife. While wearing extra-thick cold water gloves the thumb tabs can be a little difficult to operate, and trying to get the notch on the knife handle to line up with the corresponding notch on the sheath can be a little tricky. But this only comes into play if you’re wearing thick gloves.

If you are looking for another travel-friendly, smaller knife, we recommend the Benchmade Intersect, which is super-sharp, super-tough, and super-portable. Being so small has its own problems, but we’ll let you decide.

Do we recommend the Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BC dive knife?

We do recommend the Promate Sharp Tip Titanium BCD knife. Its small size makes it perfect for a backup knife, but it’s sharp enough for use as a primary knife. What we really like about this knife is the variety of attachment means. You could attach it to your belt, a BCD strap, or even to your inflator hose. This makes perfect sense for somebody who is looking for variety in a backup knife.

The low price point makes the Sharp Tip Titanium BC knife a great addition to your dive bag. Just attach it to your inflator hose, rinse it with the rest of your gear and forget about it.
