You have reached the point where you want to upgrade your diving equipment, but you don’t want to shell out the big bucks attached to some of the price tags you see on the market. The Oceanic Delta 5 eDX can meet your needs for many dives to come. Right in the middle of the price spectrum, you can be confident in Oceanic’s history of making stable, workhorse regulators.

With an over-balanced diaphragm and environmentally sealed first stage, rest assured that this regulator will take you through your advanced diving and beyond. Where the hoses connect to the second stage, Oceanic has placed a “heat exchanger” to aid in cold-water environments. The eDX second stage is built with an all-metal valve body, is extremely light, and is designed with air venting in mind. You won’t have bubbles traveling back in your line of sight.

This only costs what?

or any loose components. The first thing I noticed was the substantial weight of the first stage. I’m used to using a heavier regulator setup, but some might be surprised. However, even with the weight of the first stage, the second stage is extremely light, making for a medium-weight package.

All of the ports sit at offset angles, making hose routing easy. There are four low-pressure and two high-pressure ports, which is the standard in the industry. The model I tested was a yoke setup, but the Delta 5 does come in either yoke or DIN.

My very first regulator was an Oceanic model, so I knew the workhorse nature of the brand. The Delta 5 eDX is a marked improvement over my old regulator, which was an unbalanced, unsealed piston regulator. That means the deeper I went, the more the ambient pressure affected my breathing ability.

As a balanced regulator, the eDX offers great breathing at any depth, regardless of tank pressure. We initially put the Delta 5 eDX in the mid-range category, simply by price point. However, after diving with it in multiple environments including the pool, a very cold quarry, and deep in the Atlantic Ocean, it could have fit a lot of different categories, including cold, durable, and “this” close to being in contention for best all-around regulator.

As an instructor—meeting divers from all backgrounds and hearing concerns from novice to experienced divers—this was truly one of my favorite regulators of the year. Many students and newer divers worry about the price tags associated with scuba diving, so the Delta 5 eDX is a great option, not only for the price-conscious diver, but for the diver who wants a regulator to carry them through years of diving.

Spec Breakdowns & Features

Being a balanced, diaphragm-driven regulator, the Delta 5 eDX can be taken to the depths of recreational diving, while also being sealed off from corrosive agents such as salt water and chlorine. A pneumatically balanced second stage means comfortable, dependable breathing no matter the depth.

Available in both DIN and yoke, the Delta 5 eDX can serve divers of all needs. Standard max working pressure matches the industry standard of 4350 psi in DIN, and 3365 psi in yoke.

The exact weight is not specified by the manufacturer, however, I can confirm that the first stage is on the heavier side while the second stage is lighter than average, making a nice mid-weight combination.

Accessories

One of the newest and most talked about pieces of equipment in the accessories category is found in the Oceanic family. To access the new Oceanic+ dive computer app, you’ll need an Apple Watch Ultra. Read our review here.

Price/Quality Ratio

The Oceanic Delta 5 eDX might just be the best value in scuba diving. We won’t go as far as calling it a hidden gem, as many people know about Oceanic and their line of regulators, but for what it costs, divers won’t find much better on the market.

We knew this regulator was in our “mid-range” category before testing, but we had to do a double check after diving with it. It breathes, performs, and feels like regulators that routinely cost much more. Bottom line, the Oceanic Delta 5 eDX has the best price-to-quality ratio on the market.

Do we recommend the Oceanic Delta 5eDX?

We do recommend the Oceanic Delta 5 eDX. It is high-performance, balanced, and environmentally sealed. While the first stage is on the heavier side, the second stage is extremely light weight. In our opinion, the Delta 5 eDX has the best price-to-quality ratio on the market. This regulator set comes with great breathability and dependability, all from a trusted brand.

With all that being said, please check with your local dive shop to ensure they can service it locally. In America, Oceanic is known as a “West Coast” brand, so the further East you go, the harder it may be to find a quality service tech. Trust us though, it is worth the search.
