Mares is a known and trusted manufacturer of all things diving. The X-Vision mask is no different, featuring a field of vision that is 20% wider than the previous model. The Mares X-Vision is low-profile, easy to clear, and easy to equalize. As one of the wider framed masks we tested, the X-Vision fits faces of varying sizes and shapes.

Coming in seven colors, and having both black and clear skirts, the X-Vision is highly individualized to meet the needs of the diver who not only wants to dive well, but look sharp while doing it.

Let’s dive in and take a closer look at the Mares X-Vision mask.

Super Wide, Super Cool

For this review I used the Lime and Black with the black skirt, and it came with a mask strap. Truth be told, I’ve always been more of a frameless mask diver. Framed masks tend to press against my brow ridge, making for an uncomfortable dive. That wasn’t the case with the Mares X-Vision. Having an extra-wide field of vision gave me more room inside the mask.

I never tried the prior version of the X-Vision, but according to the manufacturer, this new version is 20% wider than the older model. I can, however, confirm that the field of view is very large, with a great peripheral line of sight.

At first glance, the mask strap seems like a traditional split strap, but on the X-Vision the strap has an additional X shape, which helps keep the strap in place. The quick-adjusting  ergonomic buckles, attached to the skirt, make adjusting the mask easy and quick. The double feathered-edge skirt seals nicely and helps keep water out

Measuring 8 x 5 x 4 inches, and weighing only 6.7 oz, the X-Vision is light enough to deliver all-day comfort, yet wide enough to fit almost any face. With a dual lens and framed, tempered glass, there are no bells and whistles, but this affordable mask delivers what you need. The soft silicone double feathered-edge skirt is comfortable (albeit a little short on the bottom half) and prevents excess leakage.

The low volume and extra wide field of vision means you won’t miss anything off to your side, whether it’s some megafauna or just your buddy.

Accessories

Mares makes a handful of snorkels to go with your mask, such as the Ergo Flex, along with everything else a diver needs, from BCDs to computers and fins. The lightest and smallest regulator on the market, the Mares ADJ 62X is our pick for the best travel regulator.

Price/Quality Ratio

The Mares X-Vision is one of the more affordable masks we’ve tested. There’s nothing fancy with this mask. There are no lens treatments, and the glass is standard tempered. But don’t let the low sticker price fool you—the X-Vision ticks all the boxes as a quality mask from a reputable manufacturer.

Do We Recommend the Mares X-Vision?

We do recommend the Mares X-Vision. It is both affordable and above-average quality. This mask would be perfect for the diver putting together theirfirst set of gear or the diver looking for a backup mask. It is also a good choice for the diver that has a larger face but still wants a framed mask.
