Described by Mares as “likely the warmest wetsuit ever made,” the Mares Graph-Flex is a great option for cold-water divers or those who get cold easily during long dives or multi-dive days and liveaboard trips. The material and minimal seam design was intentionally designed to increase warmth, and the graphene fibers woven into the inner layer both trap and reflect heat. This wetsuit has a back zipper entry and is available in 3 mm, 5 mm, and 7 mm thicknesses.

This wetsuit is flexible, providing comfort in and out of the water. However, divers must make sure they align the velcro around the neck perfectly as it can cause irritation during the dive if not secured.

Let’s dive into our review of the Mares Graph-Flex.

  • The internal seam started pulling after only a few dives

Mares Graph-Flex Fit and Style

The Graph-Flex is available in gray/back or black color options.
The Graph-Flex is available in gray/back or black color options.

The Mares Graph-Flex is a nice-looking wetsuit with minimal graphics to provide a sleeker look. The wetsuit is available in sizes 4 through 16 and made of a flexible material, which makes it easy to move around in. With that said, shorter divers may have issues with bunching around the knees, as the legs may be too long.

The Graph-Flex is only available in gray/black and black color options, which may not appeal to divers who like a little more flair in their equipment set up. However, the cut and design of this wetsuit makes it very flattering on all divers and body types.

Warmth and Comfort

One of the warmest wetsuits on the market, the Mares Graph-Flex is sure to keep you cozy even on the coldest dives.
One of the warmest wetsuits on the market, the Mares Graph-Flex is sure to keep you cozy even on the coldest dives.

The Mares Graph-Flex is the first wetsuit that uses graphene, a material designed to not only retain heat better than other materials, but also to reflect heat so you don’t get too hot in the suit. This material also allows the wetsuit to be more flexible. While diving, the Graph-Flex does offer substantial warmth and is overall comfortable in and out of the water.

The biggest issue with the fit of this wetsuit was around the neck. If the velcro was not attached and aligned perfectly, it brushed the neck harshly. After a few days of diving, the wetsuit left quite a bad velcro rub burn on the back of the neck.

Mares Graph-Flex Durability

The Mares Graph-Flex boasts a seamless design, meaning that the seams are sealed with glue. However, after a few days wearing it, one of the internal seams broke and pulled very easily.

Otherwise, the material of the Graph-Flex performed well and was comparable to the durability seen in other wetsuits.

Price/Quality Ratio

The Mares Graph-Flex is at the higher end of pricing, and when considering the seams and velcro around the neck, other wetsuits may perform better at a more reasonable price.

However, while the seams may not be as durable as comparable wetsuits, this wetsuit does perform well in regards to warmth.

Do we recommend the Mares Graph-Flex?

We recommend the Mares Graph-Flex for divers who get cold easily on dives, as this wetsuit is very warm. However, the wetsuit does have some concerns including the velcro around the neck causing irritation and the longevity of the glued seams.
