XS Scuba Mini FogCutter X Spec Breakdown & Features

Small and compact, the Mini FogCutter measures right at 6.5 inches, half of that on the blade side and the other half being in the handle. While not specified by the manufacturer, the Mini FogCutter X is lightweight and easy to attach wherever you find it most accessible.

The shears, straight edge, and serrated edge are made from 420 stainless steel, so the Mini FogCutter won’t corrode and rust. The plastic handle is tough and fits nicely in your hand. The blunt tip is great for prying, and can be used as a screwdriver in a pinch.

XS Scuba Mini FogCutter X Impressions

One of my favorite pieces of equipment to take camping or fishing is my trusty Leatherman. I don’t have to worry about packing and managing multiple different tools; I have them all in one handy spot. It’s the same way I feel diving with the XS Scuba Mini FogCutter. Where do I keep my knife? Where are my shears? Where is my line cutter and prying tool? Oh, it’s all in the same place, attached nicely to my BCD.

Testing the Mini FogCutter was fun, and it performed nicely. With all but the thickest gloves, the Mini FogCutter was quite accessible. Even in thick gloves it was easy to get in and out of the sheath. The only small issue came while wearing thick mittens and undoing the locking clasp on the scissors. You still have the straight and serrated edge; it just might be hard to use the shears.

The serrated edge wasn’t quite as sharp as I was hoping. The straight edge and shears cut through the thin and thick rope with no problems, but the serrated edge did take a little work to cut the thick poly-braided rope.

This is a great tool for all divers. It fits nicely on your BCD; it’s easy to access; and it cuts nicely. The biggest benefit is that it eliminates having to carry multiple tools at once.

If you like the idea of a multi-tool, but want one that’s a little bigger, you should check out our review of the XS Scuba FogCutter X.

Do we recommend the XS Scuba Mini FogCutter X dive knife?

We do recommend the XS Scuba Mini FogCutter X. For starters, it performs nicely. It cuts what it should; it’s easy to get to; and has many variations of attachment. As a multi-tool, having a straight edge, serrated edge, line cutter, prying tool, and scissors all in one place is an enormous plus.

The price is absolutely affordable, and the quality is high. You’d think that it would cost more after your first use. It’s made with high-quality materials, and will last you a long time. Even if you already have a dive knife we suggest this for your save-a-dive kit.

If you like the idea of a blunt-tipped knife that is strong and rugged, but you’re worried about having moving parts, we suggest you check out the Tektite Tekna Ocean Edge.

A multi-tool sounds like a great idea, but if you’re looking for simplicity, we recommend you check out the EEZYCUT Trilobite.
