It’s a luxury to see the underwater world through the Apeks VX1. This top-of-the-line mask was designed for tech divers, but the sleek fit and easy handling make it a good choice for divers of any level. It features a flexible, high-grade silicone skirt with a tight seal to keep water out. This also makes it a good mask for novice divers or those who plan on staying under for a long time.

The “Quick-Release” buckles are easy to use. So easy, in fact, that divers wearing dry gloves can even manage the button. This feature also makes the mask a great option for dive shops looking for a manageable rental mask.

The Apeks VX1 comes with two noteworthy accessories. First, an additional neoprene mask strap increases diver comfort, especially for divers with long hair. Second, a handy case comes with an external clip to secure your mask while traveling.

Apeks is well-known for producing tech-quality scuba gear and this mask certainly meets the mark. It’s lightweight and great for travel, yet durable enough to last on a liveaboard or round-the-world dive expedition. The single lens design for the widest range of vision possible.

The design of the Apeks VX1 is simple, yet effective. In every aspect it performs well. Let’s deep dive into the finer points of the Apeks VX1.

Pros

  • Travel case and extra neoprene strap included
  • Lightweight
  • Advanced skirt geometry for additional comfort and dryness
  • Matte areas improve seal
  • Lots of color options

Cons

  • Quick-release buckle makes it difficult to change mask strap

Advanced Skirt Geometry

Created with Apeks’ Advanced Skirt Geometry, the VX1 is designed to lift pressure off the diver’s face. The textured silicone skirt also features matte and glossy surfaces, to create more traction on the diver’s skin, thereby preventing water leakage and maximizing comfort. Skirt ridges are ribbed, making the mask easy to clear when you’re underwater.

The Advanced Skirt Geometry design makes this one of the most comfortable masks on the market. It’s not just a gimmick—the particular angles of the skirt design lift mask pressure off your face, even in deep water.

The skirt’s design does have a sleek appearance, so we can recommend this product to freedivers, especially if they dive often and want something that will last.

Quick-Release Buckles & Strap

Many people struggle with adjusting their strap, especially right after buying a new mask, but Apeks has designed a buckle system that’s virtually foolproof. Since Apeks designed the mask for tech divers, they focused on creating a system that dry gloves could manipulate. Hence, the mask’s buckle is quite easy to adjust without gloves and divers of all levels will be able to find a perfect fit.

Just hold the button down and the strap is ready to adjust. It is also quite secure and you’ll be able to dive knowing your settings will not waver. The button is flat, hydrodynamic, and small enough not to obstruct your field of view.

There is one drawback to this setup, however. When you’re changing out the strap and upgrading to the free neoprene mask strap, you will need a pair of tweezers to thread a new strap through the roller.

Color Options

There are three color options for the Apeks VX1. Divers going for a classic look can choose an all-black mask. Another option is a 100% orange mask, which is great for visibility at depth. In murky water, your dive buddy will see your neon mask. Another option is an orange frame and gray skirt, which combines the classic look with a practical visibility aid.

The Apeks VX1 checks a lot of boxes with a neoprene mask strap, quick-release buckles, and lightweight, single-lens construction.

Price/Quality Ratio

The Apeks VX1 is one of the most expensive masks on the market, with an MSRP of $179.00. This is a high price point. But we think there are a lot of features that make this mask a good choice. First, the high-grade silicone will hold up long-term in both chlorinated and salty water.  It has a sturdy build and crystal-clear lenses.

The mask also comes with both an additional neoprene mask strap and a lightweight traveling case. It is also a great choice for diving professionals who don’t mind investing in the best equipment.

Do we recommend the Apeks Reveal VX1?

Yes, we recommend the Apeks Reveal VX1. It’s the only mask offered by Apeks—a trusted tech diving brand—and they’ve made it one of the best on the market when it comes to skirt design, comfort, and reliability. This product would suit divers who are looking for luxury and reliability.

The comfortable silicone skirt allows for a more natural and immersive underwater experience and the convenient buckle ensures a secure and reliable fit.

However, as with all diving equipment, it’s crucial to maintain and use the mask according to the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure safety and top-notch performance. So, if you’re looking for a high-quality diving mask, the Apeks Reveal VX1 is definitely worth considering.
